BD-DVD vs HD-DVD
The latest round in the format wars, and a formidable one, goes to Blu-Ray. Not only has Apple joined their board, which means upcoming Macs will have BD-DVD drives, but longtime HD-DVD supporter Warner Bros has dropped it in favor of Blu-Ray.

This is what happened at HD-DVD headquarters just after the announcement.

Yeah, this sucks. IMO, I like HD-DVD better. My HD-DVD player kicks ass. The up conversion on regular DVDs is fantastic. I thought it would pixelate everything like 'HD Ready' TVs do, but not the case at all. And it plays regular CDs, which Blu-Ray can't figure out for some reason. Anyway, I told my wife that there isn't any reason to get a Blu-Ray player currently, and if there was, I'd get a Sony Playstation just so I had access to video games too, which she doesn't necessarily want in the house, but as far as the price for a Blu-Ray player, that's the way to go. Now, with Blu-Ray's surge to the lead, this may be my big excuse to get a Sony Playstation, except I still can't find a reason why, other than the games of course. But still, it's another $400 expense. The HD-DVD player was only $250. I bought my HD-DVD player mostly because the 5 disc 25th Anniversary Bladerunner set finally came out on HD-DVD, which has versions of the movie that haven't been available to watch for almost as many years. That and BBC's Planet Earth. Heck, even Face/Off is available for HD-DVD. Oh, but I have to have all those great Sony, Disney, & Warner Brothers titles... which are?
I guess another solution is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106227, which is half the price of a playstation, and with Nero 8, AnyDVD and/or the new Handbrake, you can rip in hi-def, since Blu-Ray has 75% of the DVD market now.
I for one am glad BD-DVD won because I like blue lasers more than red ones. Also I like disks that can hold 50GB better than 30GB.
But there are some strong arguments for HD, and more than a few folks agree. http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/the-state-of-hd-dvd/the-state-of-hd-dvd-33068...
