Minefield (aka Firefox 3 Beta Nightly Build)

I suppose I'm a glutton for punishment because for the last few weeks I've been running the Firefox 3 beta (v5). Under heavy load it was quite unstable (6+ tabs including Gmail, Gcal, etc). So I started using the *nightly snapshots* (aka Minefield), which for potentially explosive software is much more stable than b5.

BTW, the improved look and performance of v3, even in beta form, make it obvious this is going to be a significant upgrade for Firefox.

seems to be holding pretty

seems to be holding pretty steady for me so far under significant load all around : FCP, Google Earth, SnapzPro, two shells into remote machines, 7 tabs in addition to two tabs open in Safari, oh, and Quicktime, too.

i've only been running it for three hours or so - will see how it continues to hold up.

definitely seems a bit quicker - i noticed the footprint is a bit smaller than the last release, yah?

i prefer Firefox for it's more keyboard-based performance compared to Safari, which also has its merits when rendering text, etc.

i like that the beta supports restoring tabs, which is what makes Opera so suhweeet for RnD.

i still enjoy using Lynx so maybe i'm just a pushover all around - doesn't take much to impress me, i guess. these internets, what can i say, i just love them.

; )
