Minefield (aka Firefox 3 Beta Nightly Build)
I suppose I'm a glutton for punishment because for the last few weeks I've been running the Firefox 3 beta (v5). Under heavy load it was quite unstable (6+ tabs including Gmail, Gcal, etc). So I started using the *nightly snapshots* (aka Minefield), which for potentially explosive software is much more stable than b5.
BTW, the improved look and performance of v3, even in beta form, make it obvious this is going to be a significant upgrade for Firefox.

Windows Terminal Server Thin Clients w/ LTSP v5 on Ubuntu Feisty
Overview:
The clients PXE boot to the LTSP v5 server which auto-launches the Remote Desktop (rdesktop) client that auto-connects to a Windows 2003 terminal server. The result is you can take a bunch of end-of-life P2 or P3 computers, remove their hard-drives, boot them from the network and give them new life.

With the release this morning of Apple's new Mac Pro Quad-Core super beasty machine I thought I'd do a cost comparison. The bottom line is the Apple, for about the same hardware, costs only a little bit more ($6200 vs $5000). Is the extra $1200 worth it for the Apple OS and hardware? (I think so!)

Remote Desktop in Vista Laggy
This has been driving me crazy for a while. I'm a Mac user, running Parallels with Vista. When I RDP from Vista it's agonizingly slow. I figured it was because I was running Vista from an emulator, but nope!
