Any of you yackos got a line on free website graphics for use on a site like this? I want to replace the reddish-pink triangle and circular buttons with something shiny! Need more flare!

You're only working with

Submitted by budque on Thu, 04/12/2007 - 14:31.

You're only working with 72dpi, usually 16x16 images for blog icons. Just take a screen shot of whatever you want and pop it into photoshop. But if you can't find something you like via a google search for "blog icons" then I'm doubtful you'll find something you'll like anywhere else. If you have illustrator you can create your own icons using Live Trace. You can also work big and then save at the smaller size you want for your site. But to answer your question, I don't have a particular lead on a particular site for blog icons. However, I know there are icon trading sites out there: http://www.web-development-blog.com/archives/a-social-icon-trading-commu..., as well as others.
Good luck finding something to replace a circle and a triangle. That's got to be tough.

The problem isn't finding

Submitted by ryan on Thu, 04/12/2007 - 15:08.

The problem isn't finding stuff in Google, it's finding too much stuff (not to mention all the pitfalls encountered when using the word "free" in searches). Most of the stuff I came across either costs money, was licensed for non-commercial use only, was ugly, or was already used in Gnome ;). Anyway, I took a screenshot of a glossy buttin in Adium and changed the hue to get diff colors for the round buttons and made the "top of page" triangle out of a character in Zapf Dingbats... so I guess those work for now. If anyone wants to contribute gfx, css, or other skills to this site speak up I'd be happy to provide access to qualified yackos! PS: budque thanks for the 2nd link to the same site as your first link ;) Are you a member of icon buffet, maybe you could add me as a buddy and send me some icons if you have enough tokens, stamps, or whatever is required to d/l from there...

Where's the new icons? I wanted to check them out. Overall, I think the akgeek.net site looks fine. Yeah, that's pretty much the jist of what it takes to make blog icons more or less. Unfortunately I'm not a member of icon-buffet but they rank fairly high in all the searches. I thought the 2nd link was to a link trader ring, my bad.

The new icons are just the colored glossy bullets on the right, and the blue triangle on the bottom. Wooopeeeeeeee.
