frequent flyer vs. rare low-rider
new posts are groovy.
even tho new posts do not GUARANTEE traffic to a site, it's always uplifting to see "action".
remember the line from Toy Story: "Kids don't love violence, kids love ACTION!"
the best part of that movie and true.
since we're kids dressed up like adults, we're subject to the same forces.
our attention is held, the noise breaks for a moment and we are with it if there is action.
still, it leaves some of us [like me] feeling rather unfulfilled and eager to find something more satisfying if only for having something resembling "shwing".
on the other hand, people like maddox post only when they have something that is inspired or discovered rather than manufactured. usually condescending and negative but humorous and clever, maddox has a way of putting thought into his posts that are a singular style of cynicism unmatched on the web.
the thing i like best about his style is it keeps me checking on the site from time to time even when he only posts every now and then.
and it's clearly not a matter of aesthetics of great UI as you can see for yourself.
it's a no-frills, straight-up site from back in the early days backed by enough bandwidth to handle heavy traffic employing custom animated GIFs in lieu of motion graphics and embedded video.
so for people like me, it's all about the attitude, which is what he's selling, and not the presentation or production values of the site.
still, not everyone can accomplish this the way maddox does, consistently creating funny posts but only when he gets something up his ass about something or somebody.
there's a certain authenticity in it that lacks in other, more "active", sites.
but not this one.
