Thunderbird + Google Calendar = one step closer to killing Outlook

i know ryness posted about some thunderbird addons a while back...

i've been using thunderbird more and more lately on my main mac and using this tutorial i've been syncing my google calendar too!

so now the missus and i can keep track of all our shiat under one online calendar, using the same mail client, etc, and i don't have to run another f$%king mailserver. that might be fun for some [colin] but for me it's nothing but a PITA.

this is better than entourage, crossover, et al and IMHO fast, simple and integrated well.

next up, a raging shared contacts app so at long last M$ will have a run for it's money in the PIM market.

since chandler kinda bit the dust, i'm exicted to watch this all evolve.

After trying both methods (gcal xml feed into tbird via lightning/gcalsync, and gcal html feed into tbird start page) I have to say I gave up on both and just keep a browser window open to gcal all the time.

The interface of the native gcal just makes lightning lame, and the read-only html link is pointless since I'm always adding/editing to various shared calendars.

The ffox add-on gcal notifier makes things pretty functional, and I'm looking fwd to the QuickAdd ext for ffox2.x.

gcalsync/lightning/thunderbird still have a long way to go until they'll win me over.

Lightning is just the add-on that runs Sunbird inside Thunderbird, uses the core Sunbird code. So Sunbird is redundant for Thunderbird users unless they want their calendar in a separate app. Sunbird/Lightning have all the basic calendaring features, and work pretty good, but lack in the graphic/UI maturity department, especially when compared to gcal, trumba, or even Entourage or Outlook's built-in calendar.
