Clustering

Anyone here ever mess with clustering? I'm trying to come up with a good reason to do so.  It seems that there are a lot of technologies that come on LiveCD now and use Linux / FreeBSD to allow for distributed computing.  Things that come to mind:

- Rendering
- Music production
- Searching for aliens

Some links:

From what I've read in my travels to employee a bunch of crappy

From what I've read in my travels to employee a bunch of crappy old G4s in an xgrid is that it's useful for:

  • Searching for Aliens
  • Doing complex math problems
  • rendering video

I don't do any of the above so I didn't get very far in the project. The only rendering I do goes pretty quick on my workstation and would take longer to travel over the network that to just run it locally.
